URL Encoding¶

We are working on an update that will automatically encode URL parameters. In the meantime, this tutorial is a workaround.

Encoding as you type text¶

When adding URL query parameters in a request, Paw encodes text as you type. The unencoded input is shown in the URL Params tab, whereas the URL field contains the encoded values.

Encoding with a dynamic value¶

If a dynamic value is set in a URL parameter, its value should be automatically encoded (using % escapes). Though, it’s possible to explicitly encode values before. For this, wrap your values in a URL-Encoding Dynamic Value.

To insert it, right-click on a field and pick Encoding > URL-encoding > Encode. And insert whichever value you need in the “Input” field.

Your dynamic value will always be URL-encoded:

Re-Encode Percent Escapes¶

By default, Paw only encodes characters that are not already URL-encoded, to prevent double encoding. In fact, if you enter %20 in the URL, it won’t try to encode it again (which would result in %2520). Though, if you still want them to be encoded you can either use the URL-Encode Dynamic Value as described above, or enable the global preference: Re-Encode Percent Escapes (in menu Paw > Preferences > HTTP).
