Filter responses using jq JSON processor dynamic value¶

If you need to parse a JSON response to use some information from it for other requests in Paw you can use the jq JSON processor dynamic value.

Install the extension

From the jq JSON processor extension page install the dynamic value. Then confirm the installation in Paw.

Insert the dynamic value and choose the JSON input for filtering

You can combine the jq JSON processor with the Response Raw Body dynamic value to parse the JSON response.

Add the JQ args to extract the needed information

You can find more details on the jq args in the manual.

Here are the most frequent cases:

Slice a list, for example, to get the first three results

Example args: .[0:3]
Extract one field of an object in a list by referencing another field of the same object

Example args: .[] | select(.commit.author.date == "2016-03-21T22:43:01Z") | .sha
Restrict the JSON down and build a new object

Example args: .[0] | {message: .commit.message, name: .commit.committer.name}
